Alanya Fortress in Alanya is one of the most iconic and atmospheric attractions you can visit along the Turkish Riviera. Sitting at the very top of the dramatic Alanya cliff, the fortress offers sweeping views of the turquoise Mediterranean, the Red Tower (Kızılkule) below, and the entire Alanya coastline stretching toward Mahmutlar. The easiest way to reach it is by taking the cable car (teleferik) from Cleopatra Beach — you can buy a round-trip or a one-way ticket and walk back down, though the descent takes time and a reasonable level of fitness. At the top, explore the old walls, cannon terraces, and Byzantine-era structures at your own pace. Sunset here is one of the best things to do in Alanya. A word of caution: some of the restaurants up at the castle area are pricey and not particularly good quality — we'd suggest grabbing food back in the city centre instead. This is a landmark attraction in Alanya Turkey that we genuinely recommend.
