Hünkar Turkish Canteen in Alanya is more of a cafeteria-style eatery than a restaurant, and that's not a criticism — it's what makes it stand out among the places to eat in Alanya. The food is simple, hearty Turkish home cooking, and it comes to you quickly with a few nice free sides like salad and pickles, which we always appreciate. Portions are on the smaller side according to some visitors, though we found them reasonable for the price, which is notably lower than most comparable places in Alanya. Water is charged separately but you can easily decline it. The location is at a busy intersection near the eastern side of Alanya city centre, within walking distance of Ataturk Square, which makes it convenient but also means it can get noisy. Hünkar doesn't have any pretensions about being a tourist restaurant in Alanya — it's a place where local people eat, which in our book is always a reliable sign of honest food. Our recommendation is to go in with modest expectations and you'll likely be pleasantly surprised.
